A narrow strip of land between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean: Chile is an enchanting country to traverse from North to South.
Inhabited by indigenous people for centuries, Chile was colonized by the Spaniards in the XVI century despite the massive insurrections of the Mapuche, the local inhabitants. It obtained the independence from Spain at the beginning of the XIX century and, after the dictatorship of Pinochet, which lasted for 17 years, in 1988 Chile started its way towards democracy.
Chile is just incredible: breathtaking landscapes, a broad diversity of customs and ancient traditions that throws you back to the past, unique experiences to enjoy.
Let’s go through the best places to discover!
Santiago. A cosmopolitan and sophisticated city you can view fully from Cerro San Cristóbal, the largest park in the city. Do not miss the opportunity to visit the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombiano for a glance at the pre-Colombian cultures and la Chascona, one of the houses of the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda.
Easter Island. A wild land completely isolated from the rest of the world which appears as an open-air museum: here you can see the famous “Moai“, monumental statues carved by the inhabitants between the XIII and the XVI century.
Chiloé. Situated in Southern Chile, Chiloé is the main island of an archipelago of the same name and is famous for the wooden palafitos and the mythical wooden churches declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The culture of this island will fascinate you: people, food, landscapes are part of a legendary fabulous world.
Valparaíso. Charming, colorful and poetic, this is a city Neruda used to love and take inspiration from: you can visit his former residence, la Sebastiana, which is today a museum with an incredible view over the Pacific Ocean. Get lost through narrow alleys, stairs, steep streets: you will get the real feel of this magic country. Don’t forget to visit the port and the close Plaza Sotomayor.
Torres del Paine. A stunning national park to face the magnificence of nature, among glaciers, typical granite horns and blue water. A must see is Lake Grey, one of the symbols of Chile: a lake covered with huge icebergs where you can take a kayak and canoe through them. An unforgettable experience!
