Future Tense in Italian

Che sarà, sarà—what will be, will be!

In Italian the Future Simple tense is used to:

  • talk about an action which has yet to happen:
  1. Fa freddo ed il cielo è grigio: oggi pomeriggio pioverà. (It’s cold and the sky is gray: this afternoon it’s going to rain)
  2. La finale di champions league si terrà domenica prossima. (The final of the champions league is going to take place next sunday.)
  3. I film verranno presentati a Hollywood. (The films are going to be presented in Hollywood.)
  • plan an action that will happen:
  1. Domani inizierò la dieta. (Tomorrow I’m going to be on a diet.)
  2. Cosa farai dopo la maturità? Andrai all’università? (What are you doing after graduation? Are you going to university?)
  3. Io e i miei amici la prossima estate andremo in Cina. (My friends and I are going to China next summer.)

To form the future of Italian verbs it is necessary to add the correct endings to the root of the verb.
